Sláinte for St. Patrick’s Day
“The luck of the Irish” is a phrase that, surprisingly, may have originated in California. Some scholars suggest that the phrase derives from the fact that many of the earliest and most successful gold miners in the California gold rush were of Irish origin. We prefer the notion, expressed by other scholars*, that the “luck of the Irish” is found in their appreciation of family, friendship and a good potato dish or three.
And, while we are not Irish, we are Californian and also love family, friends and spuds in all of their glorious varieties. That’s why we work with potato growers, packers and distributors around the world to share their bounty with you. And that’s also why we wish you and yours a Happy St. Patrick’s day. May the ádh mór (that’s good luck) of the Irish be with you!
* Fine, our friend Dr. Juan isn’t a scholar of Irish history, but he is a very smart fellow 🙂
