Brush Beds

Brush beds are made up to 7 feet wide and typically up to 25 feet long with combination washing brushes and donut rolls or it can be structured with all brushes or donuts. Most brush beds have a water manifold over the brushes to apply detergent or fresh water to aid in the cleaning or rinsing process. Brush beds are usually all stainless steel construction and feature two drive motors for dependability. Under the donut or drying section a squeegee is usually used. The pressure of the squeegees against the donuts can be controlled as can the dwell time of the squeegee against the roll. Usually a drip pan is installed to catch the water underneath the brush bed.

High Pressure

High pressure wash systems are often used to clean the outside of a potato or citrus product.  The result is an appearance superior to that which is obtained using only water line pressure and washing brushes.

Going through a high pressure pump, the line water pressure is raised usually to150 to 300 psi before being applied to the product.  Often the water is filtered and recycled to reduce water usage.  Normally, high pressure water systems are attached to the brush beds and the water is sprayed directly over the product.

Accumulation Systems


4 Belt Accumulation Conveyor

The 4-Belt Accumulation Conveyor is an extremely gentle method of accumulating and conveying fresh produce. Product is accumulated in a ‘3-sided’ conveyor system, whereby the 3 – sides are connected via an angled backstop. When the system is empty, the backstop is in the full forward position. As the system begins to fill-up, the backstop gradually moves back. An electronic-eye , measuring product depth, controls the motion of the backstop. System dimensions and holding capacity are adjustable to suit commodity specifications are other customer requirements.

Even Flow Hopper

Holding Bins

Potato holding bins are built to accommodate the volume, or sacks, needed in the space available.   They can be fed by a slanted belt on top or some type of articulated or telescoping feed system, depending on what is desired.  They usually feature a “dog house” or “turkey roost” over the pull out conveyor and a very low gear motor so the pullout conveyor can operate at a low speed and not damage the potatoes.  There is no particular “right size”.  However, correct design is very important so that the potatoes are evenly filled and discharged without damage.

Accu Count Filler

The Accu Count Filler is designed to rapidly count fill RPC or any metric footprint container. Programming the Accu Count Filler is easily done by the operator entering the size wanted and the number of containers.

The Accu Count Filler uses through beam eyes to count staggered lanes of product as it is feed into the accumulation hopper. The Accumulation hopper allows the machine to continue to run while filled and empty boxes are being indexed. Once the containers are filled they are automatically ejected onto a packed box conveyor. The Accu Count Filler is easily moveable from location to location, and can be fed from any bin opening or off any belt conveyor. Volume capacity of up to 10-12 containers per minute depending out count size.

ACCU FILL – Automatic Weight Filler

The Accu Fill volume filler is an automatic weight filler for boxes and RPC’s.  The Accu Fill system is used to accurately an gently fill boxes and RPC’s by weight.  Once the container is in position, it is lifted into the air to minimize the distance the product falls into the empty container.  The container is then quickly filled to within 1-2 pounds of target weight, at which point a pneumatic shear, located on the product in-feed conveyor, is activated.  The shear aligns the product so that the container is fed on piece at a time until the target weight is reached.  The system can fill approximately 5-7 containers per minute, depending on container size an target weights.

The Accu Fill system can be adjusted to handle a variety of container dimensions.  Target weights are easily set via a simple touchscreen, user interface.

The Accu Fill offers the perfect combination of speed, accuracy and affordability.

Accurately and gently fills, to a targeted weight, RPC, 50 lbs, 40 lbs., 14 Kilo & 6 Kilo containers at rates ranging from 5 – 7 units per minute.

Tilting Pack Table

Tilting pack tables are used to spread out bags so packers can pick them up easily across the width of a pack table and put them into containers or cartons.  The cartons are then pushed forward exiting on a moving conveyor.  The tables are designed so that by the time a bag reaches the end of the table the table tilts and lets the bags slide easily along the length off the table so that the bags are spread out in front of the packers. The tables can be made any length and you can set the timers so that the speed is relative to what the workers can pack.  It’s a convenient way to spread the bags out in front of the workers and make the packing much more efficient.

Bucket Elevator

Bucket elevators are made in various lengths and heights and are used where floor space is a premiumBuckets are made of different materials such as plastic, metal, rubber, etc.  Most of the conveyors are chain driven.  There are various styles and some are simply vertical.  Others have a “goose neck” feature at the top delivery to soften the drop.  The “Zorro” model starts out flat for a very easy and effective feed, then goes vertical then again flattens out at the top.  This style can eliminate conveyors and gently handle the product because the flat portions can be any length.

Vertical Flight Elevator

There is never a day when Exeter Engineering is not building a roll conveyor or roll elevator.  If the roll is going uphill it is a roll elevator.  If it is flat it is a roll conveyor.  Very often it first goes up then flattens out.  So it is both a roll elevator and a roll conveyor.  Almost all grad tables are roll conveyors.  The most important difference between one roll conveyor and another is the sizes which are used.  These are usually PVC rolls. The roll sizers change so that the valley between the rolls is large enough to carry the product up on the incline, turn th eproduct to spread it out and explore all the surface so it can be graded and not allow the product to fall to deep into the valley which would pinch or otherwise injure the product.
