OCULUS: INTELLIGENT OPTICAL SORTING


  • Potatoes are delivered to the in-feed section of the Oculus spread across the complete width.
  • Friction pads back rotate the crop to give a single layer of potatoes.
  • Crop then passes into the camera/lighting dome where they rotate to give a 360° view for full image collection.
  • On leaving the dome, rotation stops and potatoes are carried to the discharge point.
  • The computer system assesses the position of each potato.
  • The potatoes leave the track and roll vertically.
  • Pneumatically operated fingers move the rolling potatoes to create an intelligent chute, which deflects product either forward or back.
  • Produce deflected forward is delivered out of the front of the machine by chute.
  • Produce defected backward goes onto conveyors delivery to one side of the machine.
  • All grade settings can be adjusted live using the remote computer positioned at the end of the machine. 
  • This computer screen gives information on performance and allows predictive changes to be made prior to live adjustments.
